I forgot to send a gift. Is it too late now?

It’s never too late to send a gift. It might actually be a nice surprise for your client. No matter how much time has passed you can still make a big impact and impression on your client.

In fact, we have clients who choose to do a gifting campaign for their closings in the previous year as well as clients who start to gift in years 2, 3, 4 and 5. This is an excellent way to have your clients recall and remember you well after the initial transaction.

I'm not a realtor! How do I know how much to spend on a gift?

It depends, but again err on the side of generosity. If your business is commission based you may want to base it on a percentage of your commission. Others might want to base the gift value on a portion of the lifetime value of the client. This is also a good strategy to consider.

Can you tell me more about set and forget gifting?

Set and forget gifting means you won’t have to think about:

  • Who to gift
  • When to gift
  • What to gift
  • What it will cost
  • When it will be delivered and so on!

Our system ensures we know your preferences and gifting is executed following your selections.

What is your mission as a company?

Our mission is to help businesses be recognized, remembered and referred! What do we mean by that? We know that automated gifting increases brand recognition, brand recall, keeps your business top of mind and increases the likelihood of referrals. Our promise to you is to go above and beyond to boost your business in the eyes of your client.

Do you offer returns?

Valet Gifting Co. offers returns within 30 days on custom/personalized gifts in the form of an exchange in the unlikely event that the gift is faulty. If the gift is not faulty we cannot process an exchange because the gift was personalized for your client. Exchanges on non-customized gifts of any kind can be accepted within 30 days.

You can request a return by emailing andrea.bunce@valetgifting.com

How much should I spend on a closing gift?

Generosity and thoughtfulness are the primary drivers in gift giving. Many Realtors allocate between 1-3% of their commission to spend on a closing gift, but this is just a guideline. Other types of gifts vary.

We recommend erring on the side of generosity, as this is what gifting is all about. Additionally ensuring the gift is about them and not about you. Try to give something substantial that doesn’t break the bank.

Will gifting lead to referrals?

We can’t ensure that gifting leads to referrals, however, studies show that it increases the chances of receiving referrals as well as retention of clients.

Are client gifts tax-deductible?

Yes, client gifts of all kinds are tax-deductible in the United States. Specifically, the IRS allows businesses in the United States to deduct up to $25 per client per year. If a gift is above that threshold you won’t be able to claim the excess on your taxes but a $25 deduction is still a big help. If you are outside the United States we advise you to check with your relevant taxation authority.

Now, an additional note, if the gift itself includes your company on it the whole gift can be claimed as an advertising expense. There are classy and un-classy ways to do this...I recommend we discuss.

Are employee gifts tax deductible?

It depends. Employee gifting has more rigid requirements than client gifting. The IRS in the United States has a term, “de minimus fringe benefits,” which governs how and what gifts can be deducted or are subject to tax. We recommend speaking with your accountant or attorney about this matter. Or referring to pages within www.irs.gov to be sure you can get the most out of your gifting strategy. If you are outside the United States you’ll need to check with your relevant taxation authority.

I didn’t give a gift at closing, should I give one now?

Absolutely. Giving a spontaneous gift is an excellent, authentic way to reenter a client’s life, even if they have been unattended for a long time.
