Advertising is no doubt an effective way to get the word out about your business, but it’s broadcasting a “look at me” message where the clients themselves receive no benefit.
Today, we will talk about marketing strategies that benefit your client as well as you, (of course)!
Delivering value to your client is the foundation of every business relationship. So then, should we not try to offer value in everything we do in business? And, what are the strategies for offering radical value to your client?
In terms of marketing, advertising is the most well-known in the marketing portfolio. Alas, it is probably the most selfish of all the marketing strategies. Advertising is defined by The Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “the action of calling something to the attention of the public especially by paid announcements”. Additionally, “a paid notice that is published or broadcast”.
In this broadcast of information it’s rare that it offers lasting value to the prospect or clients. It serves to notify the prospect of your company. Now, if that advertisement offers a 10% off their next purchase, well, then that is an exchange of value. If you’re a realtor, I don’t think you’d be advertising a discount.
Another challenge with broadcasting is that it’s just that, it’s broad. So how do we know the right eyes are seeing and that they are paying attention? Most of the time we don’t.
Thankfully, there are great alternatives to advertising that can both carefully target and offer value to your clients and prospects.
Here is a list, before we discuss in more detail:
- Handwritten notes
- Informational and carefully targeted social media marketing
- Blogs
- Informational Guides (Lead Magnets)
- Gifting to clients
Now, of these there are two that are less self-serving and more genuinely motivated.
Handwritten Notes
Barrier to entry: Low
Handwritten notes are easy and selfless. It only takes your time and one stamp.
Anyone can start today. And, if you continually invest time and effort into handwritten notes you’ll impact how your clients feel and how they feel about you.
If you want a hand with this strategy, Valet Gifting Co provides a simple handwritten note program where we can send to all your clients in a quick campaign where you don’t need to lift a finger. For more information contact us at valetgifting.com/contact
Social Media with Substance
Barrier to entry: Moderate
Social Media is an excellent strategy, but it is time consuming. Social media constantly needs your attention to stay on top and be visible to clients and prospects. Algorithms on social media are constantly changing.
If your post, reel, or live holds value to the client or prospect you’re doing it right. If you’re broadcasting you may want to rethink your strategy.
